Islands in the Stream
The preliminary list of islands to be used as base camp for Bras Across the Water has been narrowed down to three (see photo). It is important that I have a couple of alternate sites because the Army Corps of Engineers says there are no reservations for primitive camping sites; each site is available on a first-come first-serve basis, and the placement of camping equipment on a campsite for the purpose of reserving that site for future use is prohibited. I cannot be certain which islands will be available the weekend of the event (September 30-October 2), but I am hopeful that waiting until after the Labor Day weekend will reduce the competition for camping space.I am going to take Mrs. Moondog with me to the launching area this afternoon on a photo reconnaissance mission. She is very handy with a camera, and I am hopeful that her zoom lens will provide some details of the topography that will prove useful.
